How the Scrabble Word Finder Works
Type your available letters into the search box above — include ? for each blank tile on your rack. Our engine searches a dictionary of valid Scrabble words and returns every possible match. Each result links to its definition so you can verify the word before playing it and learn its meaning.
You can also use * to find words that start or end with specific letters. Searching qu* returns all words beginning with "qu", while *tion finds every word ending in "-tion". This is useful for board positions where you need a word that fits a specific pattern.
Scrabble Strategy Tips
- Two-letter words — Learn the valid two-letter words (aa, ab, ad, ae, etc.). They're essential for parallel plays and squeezing points from tight board positions.
- High-value letters — Letters like Q, Z, X, and J are worth 8–10 points each. Search for words starting with these letters to maximize your score on premium squares.
- Word hooks — Add a single letter to an existing word on the board to form a new word. Search for words that extend common words by one letter.
- Blank tile strategy — Save blank tiles for bingos (using all 7 letters for a 50-point bonus). Use ? in your search to see what 7-letter words your rack can make.
Common High-Scoring Scrabble Words
Knowing uncommon but valid short words gives you an edge. Words like qi (11 points), za (11 points), ox (9 points), and jo (9 points) are short, high-value plays that fit almost anywhere on the board. For longer plays, look for words with common prefixes like un-, re-, and out- or suffixes like -ing, -tion, and -ness.
